The Decor Item I've Been Loving This Summer

Hi friends! It's Jeneil. Today I wanted to share a glimpse into the decor I've been using to spruce up my home this summer. While I haven't changed my decor as seasonally as I have in the past, this summer I've loved experimenting more with fresh greenery and plants! They're a super easy decor element to incorporate, and if you pick the right plants, they're a great way to bring summer colors indoors.

Branching Out

Plants have long been a staple of my home decor, especially flowers. I LOVE them! They're easy to get, and with a bunch of different bloom and vase options available, it's super easy to curate a specific look. I've used them in everything from formal bouquets to giant flowerpot displays on my front porch. Other small houseplants often dot my house as well (such as an ivy display that I have in my entryway).

Recently, I decided to branch out from my traditional houseplants and went and got two great big topiary boxwoods for my porch. I love them! (Right now, I'm just trying to keep them alive because I think they'll be beautiful spots of color on my porch in the wintertime). I decided to pair them with some black gingham bows to add an extra layer of visual interest.

How I'm Styling Them

Personally, when it comes to incorporating greenery, I always go for live plants. I don't like the look or feel of fake plants and trees, and while it takes more upkeep, I love the fresh feeling it gives my home. As I've experimented with different greenery, I've found three main display types that I tend to gravitate towards:

1. Scalloped Baskets and Trays

I use our scalloped wicker baskets all over my home, so they often take center stage when I'm styling smaller plants. Here you can see an example of a table center piece that I've used, in addition to an ottoman "coffee-tablesque" display that I made using a scalloped lacquer tray as a base.

Copper

I've also paired my plants extensively with copper (one of my favorite home decor elements! Check it out). I've experimented with a lot of different copper pots and plants stands, and I've found that they work really well. The copper brings a beautiful warmth to the space, and helps accentuate the plant as a tasteful accent piece.

Terrariums

Finally, I've also used tons and tons of terrariums around my home. Here's just one example! I often combine them with other decor elements as part of a larger display, and I have used both open and closed terrariums.

Versatile. Easy. Fresh.

Again, I've really enjoyed using fresh greenery this summer. It's definitely added color and softened the feeling of my spaces! If you're looking for ways to incorporate more plants into your own decor, I'd suggest starting small, especially if you're not used to caring for live plants. Start with some small potted plants on an end table or on your mantel, try a hanging planter, or simply get a batch of fresh flowers and put it on your kitchen table. And if you're trying to find ways to make a centerpiece, I'd suggest checking out our scalloped wicker baskets and scalloped lacquer trays, since they act as a great base. Let us know how you're bringing the outdoors in this summer!
