How to Hang Your Front Door Displays: Hooks vs. Hangers

Looking to add a front door display to your porch, but unsure how you want to hang it? I've been there, especially as I've developed our gingham bows and designed porch displays for the variety of homes my husband and I have built.

Let’s explore two of the most popular attachment methods— adhesive hooks vs. door hangers—so you can choose the perfect option for your front door display!

Using Adhesive Hooks

Adhesive hooks are a simple and effective way to hang your display, providing a secure hold while keeping your door or wall looking neat, crisp, and uncluttered. If you're hanging a stand-alone item, like a welcome sign, a hook would be our recommendation.

Pros:

  • Discreet Appearance: Many hooks blend into the background, or simple don't call attention because of their small size, allowing your bow to take center stage.
  • Versatile Placement: Adhesive hooks can be used on almost any surface: walls, doors, mantels, porches, mailboxes, etc. This gives you incredible flexibility while decorating.
  • Damage-Free Option: Command hooks and other removable adhesives provide a non-permanent way to hang bows without leaving marks. This is especially useful if you live in windy areas or have small children dashing in and out of the house slamming doors-- door hangers are prone to swinging, marking up your door in these situations, but adhesive hooks avoid this problem entirely.

Using Door Hangers

Door hangers aren't a bad option either, though, as they offer a hassle-free way to display your decor (especially on front doors or entryways). Hangers are particularly helpful if you're trying to mount a more bulky door display.

Pros:

  • Adjustable: Because door hangers don't rely on adhesive to stay in place, it's far easier to shift and readjust your display if you change your mind about how you want it to look, or if find that you hung it off-center. Some door hangers are also adjustable, letting you change the height of your display for the perfect look.
  • Reusable: Door hangers are also easier to reuse if you decide to move your display, again owing to the fact that they don't rely on adhesive.
  • A Beautiful Statement Piece: Door-hangers tend to be more of a statement piece than their more subtle hook counterparts. With various options in color, design, and style, you can use them to augment your front door display if you're not going for a minimalist look.

Gingham Bows: The Perfect Front Door Decoration

Gingham bows are a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a hassle-free, yet elegant front door display. Their timeless pattern adds a touch of charm and warmth to any home, and they're incredibly easy to hang and maintain, giving your front entrance a polished look without the fuss of complicated decorations.

The best part is that gingham bows are also extremely versatile. Colors like black and cream look stylish no matter the time of year, and if you're wanting a more seasonal flair, you can easily use colors like red, green, and pink to customize your home's look for the season.

Final Thoughts

Whether you choose hooks or door hangers to hang your gingham bow and other front door decor, the key is selecting a method that suits your space and design. By using the right hanging technique, you’ll keep your decor secured and looking beautiful all year round!
