Front Door Glow-Up: Creating Gorgeous Wreath Displays

Let’s be honest—front doors don’t get enough credit. They’re the first thing your guests see when they come visit, the backdrop to every Amazon delivery, and a surprisingly powerful way to set the tone for your whole home's curb appeal. And while a wreath is a classic starting point, the real magic happens when you dress it up.

A well-styled wreath display makes your front door feel intentional, inviting, beautiful, and fresh. Whether you’re aiming to add a soft and seasonal look or make a bold decor statement, here’s how to pull together a wreath display that feels classy, charming, and distinctly you.

Start with the Right Wreath

Your wreath is the anchor of your entire display, so choose one that reflects the mood or season you're going for. Here are a few style options to consider:

Classic Greenery: Timeless and neutral! Add a few seasonal elements, like eucalyptus in the spring or berries in the fall, to keep it fresh. (If this is the look you're going for, then I'd recommend looking at our boxwood wreath to get you started.)

Floral & Feminine: Perfect for spring showers, bridal brunches, or just a little front porch romance.

Textured Neutrals: Think wheat, dried florals, or preserved grasses—great for creating year-round impact without leaning too seasonal.

Monochrome or White Wreaths: Crisp, modern, and incredibly chic, especially against dark doors.

Whatever you choose, make sure the size is proportionate to your door!

Add Some Personality with Doors Bows, Signs, and More

Now it's time to make the wreath really feel like your own. Adding a well-placed door bow or decorative sign can take your wreath from “store-bought cute” to “custom and curated" with minimal effort.

Door Bows

Our door bows are designed to complement wreaths without overwhelming them. With three different fabric options (cotton, cotton-poly blend, and linen) and over 20 unique colors and prints, there's a bow for your display! You can check out our full collection of door bows here. Here's a few other tips to keep in mind as you're picking a bow:

Make sure your wreath and bow work together. If your wreath already has florals or lots of volume, opt for a simpler bow to make the display pop and avoid making it look overly busy. If your wreath is clean and minimal, try using a bolder bow print (like this floral pattern).

For seasonal displays, swap out the ribbon to match the time of year—or to reflect your personal palette. Think pink or lavender for spring, red for summer, or something more tailored like this Christmas floral for the end-of-year holidays.

You can also play around with the placement of your bow. Try placing it on top center of your wreath for a traditional, symmetrical look, at the base for a more casual, draped effect, or experiment with multiple bows to create a mirrored or symmetrical display.

Signs

Decorative signs are also a great option for sprucing up your wreath. Consider the type of look you're going for, and use that to choose what material you want the sign to be made of (a laser-engraved wooden sign will give a very different feel than a tasteful aluminum option).

Once again, make sure your sign and your wreath work together. If one is more neutral, then make the other a little more bold to make the display pop.

Other Accent Pieces

Signs and door bows aren't your only options for dressing up your wreath. In the past, I've attached bells for the Christmas season, added colorful ribbons for springtime, and used other seasonal decor for the 4th of July and Easter. (Here's what I did on my own door for the 4th of July!)

Just make sure that the accent piece(s) you choose are balanced in size compared to your wreath. Pick something too big or too small, and you'll throw off the balance of the display.

Layer with a Door Mat or Rug

Your door display doesn’t stop at eye level either! Think of your door mat as part of the bigger picture. A layered rug-mat combo adds color, texture, and balance to your porch display, working with your wreath to create a comprehensive display for your entryway.

It's pretty simple to put together. Simply start with a neutral outdoor rug (think stripes, checks, or some other subtle pattern), then layer it by putting a seasonal or more distinct mat on top. Make sure the look coordinates with the colors or tones in your wreath; it doesn't have to be super matchy-matchy, but make sure it's similar enough that it will help create a visual flow.

Bring in Height with Planters or Lanterns

If you want another way to make your wreath display part of a bigger decor theme, anchor the space with height. Think tall planters, flanking lanterns, or even a large basket of blooms off to the side. You don’t need to go full porch makeover— just a couple of small elements can do the trick.

Think symmetry when it makes sense (especially on more formal homes), or go intentionally asymmetrical for a softer, organic look. For a wedding shower or event weekend, add ribbon streamers, extra bows, or fresh greenery for extra impact.

Keep It Seasonal—But Not Literal

Changing up your wreath and porch displays seasonally will keep your decor looking fresh, but don't feel like you have to make it overly specialized. (There are ways to celebrate the season without getting bunny prints for Easter or pumpkin themed ribbons for October!) If you want a softer seasonal look, look for colors, textures, and shapes that hint at the time of year:

Spring? Try soft florals, trailing greens, or pale linens.
Summer? Think woven textures, white blooms, or citrusy pops of color.
Fall? Try rust or other earthy tones, sunflowers, dried branches, or harvest elements.
Winter? Look for evergreen decor elements, holly berries, deep red/green/blue hues, or metallic touches.

Remember, the goal is to make your door feel styled, not staged!

Don’t Forget the Hardware

One final tip: upgrade your wreath's hardware. I prefer using clear command strips or adhesive-based metal hooks to hang my wreaths. It gives my wreath display a sleeker finish while also avoiding the swinging and scratching damage that traditional over-the-door hangers cause.

If you decide that you do want an over-the-door hanger (you've been warned!), then consider using a black or brass hook to give the whole display a classy final touch.

Your Front Door, Styled with Intention

Creating a beautiful wreath display isn’t about following a trend—it’s about creating a style that feels like you. So go ahead-- make a statement! You just need a wreath you love, a bow that adds personality, and a few thoughtful layers to bring it all together.

And if you need help choosing the right bow to finish the look? We’re here for that too! Happy decorating!
