Color Made Easy: Spring and Summer Color Palettes for Decorating Beginners
Share
Few things help set the mood for a new season more than picking a stylish and well-planned color scheme for your decor. I’ll admit, if you’re new to home décor, choosing a color palette might feel like a daunting task– but it doesn't have to be! This blog post is all about helping you choose the perfect spring or summer color palette that’ll make your home feel warm, inviting, and totally YOU. Here are some of my favorites combos, as well as how I incorporate gingham bows to elevate the theme:
1. Pastel Shades (Easter and Spring)
When Easter rolls around, the softer, pastel shades of spring are always a hit. Think cream and soft shades of pinks, yellows, and lavenders. (In the past, I’ve incorporated this theme by using a floral door wreath, which I love pairing with a cream gingham bow or colored throw pillows.) This pastel palette works wonders for creating a light and airy spring look, giving your front door or entryway a cheerful, welcoming feel.
2. Pink and Gold (Mother’s Day and Spring)
There’s something about pink that screams fresh and feminine, and when paired with gold accents, it creates an elegant, celebratory atmosphere. For Mother’s Day or just a spring refresh, look for ways to pair the two colors. Gold vases or mason jars paired with pink flowers, floral prints in gold frames, gold chargers or candles and a pink table cloth– you get the idea.
3. Red, White, and Blue (Perfect for 4th of July)
When it comes to patriotic holidays like the 4th of July, there’s no better combo than red, white, and blue. I love using our red gingham bow to bring a festive pop of color to my front door, especially because it pairs beautifully with white and blue accents, like blue and white floral arrangements or American flags.

4. Tangerine and Coral (Summer Vibes)
For a fresh and bold look in the summer, tangerine and coral are a fantastic combo. A decorative rug or themed tea towels or placemats would be easy to incorporate these bright summer colors!
5. Green and White (Spring)
There’s nothing more refreshing than the soft greens of spring. Whether you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day or just the arrival of the new season, this color palette is timeless! I love using a green gingham bow for my front entryway and pairing it with fresh greenery and white florals.
6. Purple and Yellow (Springtime Festivals)
Spring festivals and celebrations are all about color, and there’s no better way to showcase the vibrancy of the season than with purple and yellow. One idea to get you started would be to create contrast by using a purple gingham bow paired with sunny yellow flowers or ribbons. This combination adds a touch of whimsy and joy to your decor, making it a perfect choice for Easter or any springtime gathering. It’s lively, fresh, and full of fun.
7. Blue and White (Summer Beach Days)
For a coastal or beach-inspired look, blue and white are the perfect summer colors. Pair a blue gingham bow with white shells, starfish, or beach-themed accents to bring a refreshing touch of color while keeping things casual and breezy. This is ideal for homes near the water or for those who just love that coastal vibe.
8. Black, White, and Red (Classic Elegance)
This bold combo works for any time of year, whether it's for a summer evening event or family gathering. The black gingham bow adds depth and contrast when paired with pops of red and white, making it perfect for holidays like Labor Day or even a chic, casual gathering. It's classic, elegant, and brings a bold flair to your decor.
As you choose your decor color palette, remember that there is no right or wrong answer– the best choice will be whatever will make you the most comfortable and reflect your personality. Let me know what your favorite color scheme was!
